Implementing and Real Time Testing a Controller for a Grid-Tied Inverter

Implementing and Real Time Testing a Controller for a Grid-Tied Inverter

Investigate the use of Simulink for the development, validation, and verification of the controller code of a three-phase grid-connected solar inverter. The objective is to design a controller that can keep inverters connected to the grid even when they experience an upset. Simulink and Simscape Electrical are used to simulate the photovoltaic (PV) system, solar inverter, and grid load.

Closed-loop and supervisory control algorithms for maximum power point tracking (MPPT), grid synchronisation, and low-voltage ride through may be designed and tuned with the help of this model (LVRT). To implement the control algorithms on a Texas Instruments C2000 PiccoloTM MCU, Embedded Coder is utilised. Finally, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation of the PV system, inverter, and grid load is conducted on a Speedgoat real-time target machine using Simulink Real-Time to evaluate the developed code under a range of simulated grid failure situations.

Microgrids with Coordinated Control of DERs, by IEEE PES Chairman, Singapore

The integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as distributed generators, energy storage units, flexible loads, combined cooling and heating units, etc. is made possible via the use of a microgrid. On Semakau Island, Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is constructing the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator for Singapore (REIDS), a networked-microgrid system comprised of various sub-microgrids owned by diverse industrial partners.

Dr. Xu Yan will begin by providing an overview of the REIDS project before moving on to discuss a variety of techniques for coordinated management of the DERs in order to preserve frequency and voltage in islanded mode and to offer frequency and voltage support in grid-connected mode. For the purpose of verifying these procedures, a multinational hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testbed (based in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and France) has been built.
